People keep asking me "Carynne, who are you?" And as much as I'd like to tell you, I thought I'd put this up instead.
Why Hanson fiction?
It's as far away from my real life as I can possibly get. Everyone needs an outlet, and this is the one I've chosen. I sum it up better in my disclaimer when I say that the stories just kind of pop into my head and I've got to get them out! Kind of the same way you need to get rid of a song that's stuck in your head. Funny thing about writing for me, though - I choose the settings from places I've actually been and spent lots of time. I only wish such interesting things had happened to me there.
Why don't you update more often?
Two reasons: he's ten, she's seven.
What's in your CD collection?
The Beatles, Sting, Carole King, Billy Joel, Duncan Sheik, The Blues Brothers soundtrack, The Smiths, more Beatles, Sheryl Crow, The Eagles, They Might Be Giants, Tears for Fears, Tchaikovsky, more Beatles, Beethoven's piano sonatas, Harry Connick Jr., Huey Lewis and the News, The Rembrandts, Boston, John Mayer, Flickerstick, Fleewood Mac, Dixie Chicks, Maroon5, Elton John... I could go on. Oh, and let's not forget 'Orange Hanson', 'Brown Hanson'', 'Blue Hanson' and 'White-ish or maybe Peach Hanson'. (My kids can never remember the names so we just go by the color of the CD. Hopefully the new one will be a different color that the previous ones!!)
What's in the CD player in your car right now?
Right now, nothing, because I'm running my iPod through the cassette adapter. Don't know how I ever got along without an iPod. Seriously.
How old are you, anyway?
Let's just say I'm coming up on 29 - again. And again and again...
Please tell us your heartwarming story about the first time you heard Hanson.
Certainly! I was having song time with my preschool class, and one of the little girls wanted to sing a song. She sang what sounded to me like a lot of cute little-kid made-up words, and I complimented her on making up such a good song. Looking shocked, she said, "I didn't make that up, it's handsome!" (Four-year-olds, gotta love 'em!) Not having any idea what she meant by that, I said some nice teacher things that made her happy and went on with song time.
The next morning she bounced in and handed me 'Middle of Nowhere', which she had 'borrowed' from her older sister. I made her give it back to her mom. A couple of days later I heard 'Mmmbop' on the radio and recognized it, much to my surprise. Curious, I bought MON that weekend and that was that! Incidentally, my son (who was one year old when MON was released) used to run around the house saying "mmmbop". Guess Mommy over-played her Hanson CD, hmm?
So which Hanson do you like best?
Hanson is a band. I can't possibly choose one over the others. I like them as a whole.
Oh, come on now, we know you have a favorite.
Well, it used to be Isaac... I still love his voice and his guitar-playing, and he was really handsome after he got his hair cut and it was all cute and curly. But nowadays I feel myself drawn more to Zac. His drumming is still awesome and his voice has matured well. I love playing a cute song like "Lucy" and then a really funky one like "Tearing It Down" back-to-back and marvelling at the difference. He's really developed into an amazing songwriter too. (Plus, Zac is REALLY good looking. Come on... I may be an 'older' Hanson fan, but I'm not dead! *grin*)
As far as writing, I feel pretty neutral about Zac. Maybe that's why he's the main character in my longer stories. I can write pretty much whatever I want about him and not feel like I'm getting too teeny, or too sarcastic.
Okay...Zac in a laundromat? Where did that come from?
I was doing my laundry one afternoon while listening to "This Time Around"... and my son's tennis shoes were in the dryer, and I started thinking about the booming sound they were making...and just wondered if Zac would appreciate it. *shrug* After that, the idea wouldn't go away, so I wrote it down.
Can you believe someone actually read all this?
Nope! I hope they sign the guestbook though.
